Katz Downloads / Katz Network Downtime
As I am sure you’ve all noticed, the entire network has had a bit of downtime over the past few days. This is due to some problems our host has been enduring with the network. There were multiple issues, some of which I am unsure of the full extent however it had to do with network connectivity issues to the entire data center, not just Katz.
We’re now making efforts to move the entire network to a new data center, and we’re also working on a more redundant system where we will have spare servers already online if we’re to have issues with network connectivity etc.
Another thing we plan on is actually “balancing” our users across multiple data centers to ensure reliability and minimal downtime. We’re hoping to get Katz Forums back online by the end of the week.

UPDATE - 29 September 2008:
We’re currently waiting on RAM upgrades for our servers. There has been a delay on ordering hardware, and our servers are currently struggling to handle the load. We’ve been assured that the new RAM should be installed in the coming 48 hours. How accurate the time frame is we’re unsure though remain hopeful.
We’ve opted not to accept submissions for the previous few days, as we’ve had no real way of updating the site as we’re running a modified version of the code to use less resources. We’re also planning on Katz Forums making a return once we get some hardware upgrades.

Katz Downloads is now back to normal. Downloads are being accepted again. DNS updates will take a while to propogate.

We’re trying to get the latest database backup from the previous hosting company. If that fails, we’ll have to bring back Katz Forums on an older (mid-September) backup.

I just can’t connect to one of your forums since the outage.
When I enter password and user, I just get back to main page without error message or anything saying password is wrong, just I am not connected

Looks like you are using a company called Intercage… is your name Mohamed Ayyad?… and what looks like a massive BGP routing issue. They should have multiple peering points to the data center to prevent this or someone relaly screwed up the routing or router.
Anyhow, good luck find a new colo.

Yah am facing probs to with katz.But still its our part of life so i cannot live without katz.At point of time am facing probs while opening both katz site and katzforum but recently i could able open katz.cd.And after long time am happy to see the blue logo.

I had only just found the forums a couple of days before the downtime… What a Tease. The diversity of stuff available is mind blowing. I hope all is well and the site is back up soon.

Perhaps you should reroute the katzforum.com domain to this blog so people will know whats going on.

Nice to see that they take the time away from the important business of searching through all the sites that submit to katz, looking for very serious reasons to ban people - a button 1 pixel too much to the left, a banner ad 1 millimeter too big, etc - to occasionally communicate with us. And thank you for re-directing people away from kats forums when they attempt to access the site, to a page explaining the problem(s) and when you expect the site to be online again. It must have been very hard for you to do that, and if you didn`t then its possible that you may have lost hundreds, maybe even thousands of users that have no knowledge of katz downloads, and who will think that the forum may have gone off line for good. I`m sure sure that you can`t wait to get the forum back on-line so that you can implement all those changes that you talked off about 3 or 4 months back. A new colour scheme was one of those changes if I remember correctly, and one admin created a thread asking what changes people would like to see, and the responses ran to many pages. Nice to see that you took many of them on board, and its just a shame that we didn`t get much of a chance to enjoy and experience them all properly before the problems occurred.

i thank you for your effort guys but bringing a forum that dosent work back online dosent make much sence. Also its a massive prick tease! the logical option would have been to get everything fixed then come back not bring back a useless forum with nothing but a shoutbox, what you’ve done is ridiculous and not fair to your regular users. im sorry if ive offended you but its the truth and it had to be said. katz is still home, will always be home, i just had to vent my frustration and im sure im not the only one who feels this way

Because I disagree ‘unknown’, it can not be the “truth” you speak. I like that Katz (minimal) is back up, I enjoy reading the shoutbox and I like reading through posts I’ve not yet explored. In fact, I have more time to explore the site as I am not so busy downloading new stuff. I expect the powers that be are making every effort to get the site back up but if they leave the link dead for too long it may be that people will assume it is down for good and not bother visiting again. At least by putting up a basic site makes it clear that Katz forums is still working albeit minimally. Not everybody knows about this blog and so can’t keep up to date with the latest news. Don’t assume that everyone agrees with you by calling your opinion ‘the truth’.
